The Food Safety Network is pleased to partner with agencies to highlight research symposia, seminars and information sessions. The Ontario Food Safety Research Program, the Guelph Food Safety Seminar Series and the Food Regulatory & Quality Assurance Summit are three programs currently supported by FSN.
Ontario Food Safety Research Program
Food safety research has been funded by the Ontario government’s Food Safety Research Program since 2001. The current priority areas are:
- Development/validation of testing methods for pathogen and chemical detection in food and water
- Data to support risk assessments / risk assessments, including the identification of emerging hazards and contaminants
- Risk management and control in food safety
The program is a collaborative effort among the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC).
Researchers present their results at the annual Food Safety Research Forum. Invited speakers from government and industry augment the program. Since 2009, oral presentations have been available through the Food Safety Network.

The Guelph Food Safety Seminar Series (GFSSS)
The Guelph Food Safety Seminar Series (GFSSS) is a forum for communicating various food safety issues and topics among government, academia and industry. Monthly seminars and an annual symposium are held from September to June. GFSSS is sponsored and coordinated through the collaboration of the following public and non-for-profit agencies (in alphabetical order):
- Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)
- Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)
- Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI - Ontario Branch)
- Canadian Research Institute for Food Safety (CRIFS), at the University of Guelph
- Food Safety Network (FSN) • Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC)
- Health Canada (HC)
- Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA)
- Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)

Food Regulatory & Quality Assurance Summit
The inagural Food Regulatory & Quality Assurance Summit will be held October 20 and 21 at Stage West, Toronto.
The Food Safety Network, University of Guelph is a supporter of this event and will be particpating in the tradeshow.
